Today came up the news that Google still prevails amongst all search engines with more than 11 billion searches done in February 2009, the data came up with the comscore releases.

So it is crystal and clear that search engine predominates web and it will continue for a very long time, but in general we are still not keen in find the factor behind this. In this post I would like to thrown some picture on this factsheet and reasons for a lag in Yahoo or Microsoft ratings.

Search engine is an industry which is standing over the pillars of targeted marketing.

Instances to quote :

I am looking for a dental surgeon in Los Angeles  -

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dental+surgeon+los+angeles&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN323IN323&ie=UTF-8

I am looking for leather bag supplier in India -

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN323IN323&q=leather+bag+supplier+india&btnG=Search

I am looking for Venture capitalist in Silicon Valley -

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN323IN323&q=VC+silicon+valley&btnG=Search

I am looking for Joomla tutorials to customize my joomla based website

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN323IN323&q=joomla+tutorials&btnG=Search
So this is a very simple explanation about the usuability of search engine and its growth.

Get anything just a click of a button……………………???

So back to the story, I must say that you guys must be thinking that I am giving newbee’s instances but let me go ahead with some typical part of the chapter.

Google is King, its not because of its linear search which I’d explained before but the universal search which is now gaining prominence day by day.

Everyone of us, usually the professionals in Internet marketing industry are aware of web 3.0 which in general does the extraction of results from several ways.

Eg. check this

http://www.hakia.com/search.aspx?q=nokia

It’s a normal search done over one of the leading Web 3.0 (Semantic search engine) Hakia.com and you could see the results coming in.

To my surprise they are segregated in several categories i.e. Hakia’s algorithm is displaying results from several sources

-    Nokia’s official website
-    Images related to Nokia
-    Latest news in Nokia
-    Official Press releases
-    Some social community related to Nokia

So its displaying tons of information on particular brand or a product, its really amazing but this technology is still in its infancy as common masses are not aware of this.

Google being a clever player has followed the same thing and didn’t exposed its web 3.0 behaviour.

Eg.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nokia&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN323IN323&ie=UTF-8

So if you type the same brand in Google it will bring you the latest news, videos, blog postings on Nokia which is as per Google is its universal search. This has really powered Google to great extend as it has incorporated all its products including – search, books, videos, blogs, news, froogle etc. in its normal results pages, once again it has occupied Web 3.0 tide to a some extend. Also Google is trying to incorporate a social tool in the form of comments.

Both Yahoo and MSN didn’t even tried to implement this in their linear searches so thereby letting google to lead the web.

So the moral of the story is “Transition is a Must” if we really want to survive in todays competitive market.
