Link building or link bating which is the best
As a blog post we can have tons of stuff for this great debate. In a nutshell both i.e. the link building and link bating are good, although link baiting is the superset of link building.
So before heading for debate let us know the meaning and significance for both.
Link building is a simpler of way of linking any website link / URL to a different website, this is what we call external linking, google pagerank formula contributes a lot of heat on backlinks of the website. In its webmaster guidelines it says that google gives the importance to those sites which have strong backlinks i.e. backlinks existing on high pagerank site.
Link building is of several types including – one way, 2 way and 3 way but as such the google is updating its algorithm this factor has been a nightmare rather than a way for google rankings. It has lost prominence since few years and webmasters are doing something different instead of normal linking.
Here comes the linkbating which says make your content (whether its in the form of text, image gallery, video or podcast) that people start linking it naturally so you got a one way link in natural manner.
There are ample examples to prove this but Wikipedia is indeed the strong evidence of such thing. Almost every article of Wikipedia has Google PR of 4 and above, the SEO guys (if they are really) of Wikipedia did nothing as all the tasks is done by its contributed authors who write as a unique and quality content that everybody links them from their website.
Really its gaining momentum day by day, its true to say that if you have 1 backlink on a trusted site with full of unique content having high PR it is almost equal to 500 directory links.
Guys you can also start this, start posting blogs or articles for your ezines and if your content is really damn good, you will realize the power of link baiting and forget the link building.
(Please note that link building is still considered as viable channel though not very strong because its fast way of getting links but trying something in link baiting is a definite plus)
